The Shivangi Dance Company was established in 2010 and offers lessons in classical and modern Indian dance styles. . The school's main objective is to provide our younger generation with an outlet to express themselves, be creative and achieve loads of confidence whilst having fun and gaining an appreciation for the Arts and Indian culture in general. The ancient Indian classical dance form of Bharatha Natyam and modern Indian dance commonly referred to as "Bollywood dance" are the main teaching mediums utilised at the Shivangi Dance Company. In our classical classes, students are taught detailed eye-hand & foot co-ordination and improve their cardio- vascular strength and gain an appreciation for music and the Arts. Practical and theoretical work is a part of the course. Students are given the opportunity to perform semi classical and folk dance items before commencing with any of the set pieces that a Bharatha Natyam repertoire encompasses. Posture and balance exercises and muscle strengthening are also included in their weekly classes. These students will also learn expression techniques that are greatly used in the story telling aspect of Bharatha Natyam. Patience and dedication are fundamental requirements in this intricate ancient dance form. In our Bollywood classes, students are taught exciting, energetic, age appropriate dance sequences to the latest North and South Indian songs. Role play is often used to enhance their performances. All Students are given the opportunity to use props and utilise drama as a tool in their performances. Confidence building, teamwork, fun, friendship and laughter are all included in our weekly classes. Classes are held in Weltevredenpark, Roodepoort.
