Write a reviewDescription: Sapphire Flame Retardant is a ready mixed compound that needs no dilution. It is used direct from the container and will provide immediate and positive protection from the spread of flames and afterglow. Properties: Sapphire Flame Retardant is a colourless, odourless and non-toxic liquid. It is essentially anionic in nature and slightly acidic in reaction. Application: Sapphire Flame Retardant is easily applied by spraying or vat dipping. No special equipment is required. Articles to be treated should be laundered or dry-cleaned before the flame retardant is applied. When applied by spray, ensure definite penetration of the fibres but do not saturate. It is only necessary to spray on one side of the fabric, usually the back, unless the material is heavy or if it is lined, as with drapes. In this case, it should be sprayed on both sides. Sprayed articles can be allowed to dry naturally and then pressed, or drying can be accomplished during pressing or any other finishing operation. If a dip or immersion method is indicated, a large tank or vat should be used and filled with a sufficient quantity of Sapphire Flame Retardant to allow for thorough saturation of the articles to be treated. Excess flame retardant should be removed with the use of an extractor. The articles treated can then be tumble dried or allowed to dry naturally, then pressed or finished. It is advisable, where possible, to test materials treated with Sapphire Flame Retardant to ensure adequate flame retardancy. Users are also urged to carry out their own preliminary test before application of Sapphire Flame Retardant. Tests and Observations: Specimens were washed and dry-cleaned after treatment. It was found that up to 3 dry-cleaning processes did not effect the flame retardancy of the treated material significantly. One washing, however, was sufficient to destroy the fire retardant properties. Pressing with a hot iron did not noticeably reduce the flame retardancy. Flammability of all materials tested was reduced via treatment by Sapphire Flame Retardant. Treated cotton and similar materials do not burn when treated. Synthetic textiles melt away from the flame. Materials treated with Sapphire Flame Retardant are more resistant to flame spread than the same materials without treatment. General Information: • The manufacture of this product started in 1975. • Prospective customers have been referred to Sapphire by fire departments for many years. • The product is environment friendly. • It allows the material to char but not burn. It stops flame spreading. • It can be applied by spraying or immersion. • Drying should preferably be done naturally but treated materials can be tumble dried or dried with a heater.
